Thank you for attending our show or watching from home. We are thrilled to be on stage and share this holiday tradition with you. Please don’t be shy with your claps, hoots, and hollers - the dancers LOVE to hear it from the stage!
It is Christmas Eve at the Stahlmbaum’s home. Children dance and enjoy a magical show with life-size dolls by toy maker Drosselmeyer. Clara receives a beautiful Nutcracker that her brother Fritz breaks. After a quick repair, the night gets late and the party dissipates. Clara goes to bed with her Nutcracker tucked under her arm. When the clock strikes midnight, she wakes to discover large mice in the room. Clara tries to escape, but the room transforms into a Mouse Kingdom. A large Nutcracker appears with an army to protect Clara! BUT - plot twist - he is a large statue and Clara must fight her own fight. The Rat King and his army of mice fight Clara and her troops. Just as the Rat King seems to be winning, Clara slaps the Rat King with her ballet slipper, defeating him. Clara cries and her tears bring the Snow Queen to life! She takes her to the Winter Wonderland where she meets the Snow Queen’s snowflakes.
Clara then travels to the Magic Castle in her sleigh, where the angels stand guard. Clara meets the Sugar Plum Fairy and she invites her to stay to enjoy performances in her honor, as a thank you for defeating the Rat King. Dancers from all over the world and the Waltzing Flowers all entertain Clara in the Magic Castle. After all of the dancers return for one final dance and then leave, Clara wonders…was it really all a dream?

It’s because of the generosity of people like you that we can do anything at all. For this, we thank you and greatly appreciate your support.”
Waltz of the Snowflakes, Waltz of the Flowers, Chinese, Reeds, and Spanish were choreographed by Casey Davenport with the help of rehearsal assistant Jon DeMone this fall. All other dances in were choreographed and staged by Kristen Stoller.
All dancers between the ages of 2 and 9 enrolled in CVDA ballet for the 2023 fall session are eligible to perform in the Nutcracker. Lead roles are auditioned for in June.
